Building regulations and document L
Here at James Tanner Joinery ensure we abide by the building regulations set out below.
Document L of the building regulations (2003) was introduced for a new set of standards relating to the replacement of windows. Please note that these new regulations only relate to replacement windows and not restoration projects such as replacement sashes. However, these guidelines do not apply for listed buildings and conservation areas.
Replacement Windows
From the document L guidelines, all new windows must meet minimum thermal standards, this is known as 'U' value. To achieve this all windows must be double glazed using low 'E' glass. Argon gas filled units or Thermex spacer bar may also be used to achieve a greater insulation. The 'U' value can be reduced to 1.2 Watts per meter squared Kelvin (W/m2K).
FENSA
Please note that we at James Tanner Joinery are not FENSA registered. For the replacement or restoration of windows, building permission must be obtained from the home owner or local authority.
